Something stinks and it ain’t the air-conditioning

It is sad and disappointing that a meaningful organization, like the National Kidney Foundation- NKF, which started out with noble ideals and aspirations, has evolved into an evasive, dishonest and soulless corporate entity.

The NKF goes head-to-head with The Straits Times, in what looks like S'pore's most sensational legal battle, over a damning news article of the NKF.

No matter who wins/loses in court, the only real losers are the Charities (or more accurately, the needy) all around. People will become more cynical generally and less charitable. And that trend does not bode well for Singapore in the long run.

Perhaps it is time for all Charities, not just NKF, to take a really hard look at their operations, to check if they have evolved into a huge money sucking, public-relations machine whose only concern is how to squeeze more sympathy money from the public.

Update:
NKF has withdrawn its lawsuit against The Straits Times after just 2 days of hearings. By now, there are tons of comments out there about the whole NKF saga, both in the real world and on the Internet.

But out of all of them, I feel that this one* best sums up how most typical S'poreans are probably feeling ... well ... maybe not so much like the 'colourful language' used, but most certainly like the indignant spirit of the writer.
